MHS Architects celebrated 2 years in our Journal Square office this summer. An exceptional collaborative working space for our construction team. There is an incredible amount of development, and MHS projects, happening all within walking distance of this office.
In 2009, the Journal Square Redevelopment Plan was adopted. Created by Tony Nelessen and MHS Architects, this plan addresses the redevelopment of Jersey City’s declining 244 acre Central Business District into a well-designed, pedestrian-friendly community with housing, retail, restaurant, and hotel spaces, all anchored by public transit in the center of the site. The plan aims to exceed Smart Growth standards by addressing areas including Land Use, Transportation, Parking and Utilities, Streets, Landscaping, and Design Standards. A rigorous process to educate the public and gain approval for the plan built support for the project.
In 2015, MHS Architects fully committed to Journal Square’s future by expanding and signing a 5,500 square foot office lease in the landmark Journal Square Thrust Company Building with views of Journal Square, Hoboken, and New York City.
“Journal Square is the historic center of Jersey City and the exciting transformation of this vibrant and vital neighborhood has already begun. We are particularly invested in its redevelopment so why not place ourselves right in the middle of it” said Dean Marchetto.
